Zoomking Awarded Human-Powered Fan Exhibit Project for Science Centre Singapore

Exploded 3D design of a hand-cranked fan exhibit with fan assembly, transmission housing, support column and base.

On 28 September 2026, Zigong Zhongqing Technology Co., Ltd., trading under the Zoomking brand, was awarded a contract by Science Centre Board for the design and fabrication of two human-powered fan exhibits for Science Centre Singapore.

The project includes two variants of human-powered interaction: a hand-cranked fan and a foot-operated fan. These units are intended for internal outdoor testing only and will not be deployed for public visitor use.

This award marks Zoomking’s first overseas public procurement award, following earlier overseas projects contracted through local intermediaries. This article covers the submitted engineering proposal. This is an award announcement, not a delivery or acceptance announcement.

Project at a glance

  • Client: Science Centre Singapore
  • Awarding agency: Science Centre Board
  • Awarded supplier: Zigong Zhongqing Technology Co., Ltd. (Zoomking)
  • Award date: 28 September 2026
  • Scope: Design, fabrication and delivery of two human-powered fan exhibits for internal testing
  • Procurement reference: SCB000ETQ26000033

Two ways to turn human effort into airflow

Both proposed designs use mechanical transmission to convert human input into fan rotation, with no electrical supply required to drive the fan. The operating method differs: one uses hand cranks, while the other uses pedals. This difference affects the input mechanism, supporting structure and arrangement of moving parts.

Hand-cranked fan concept

The hand-cranked design connects handles to an internal transmission and fan assembly mounted on a stand and base. Its exploded view illustrates how the fan, transmission housing and support structure fit together. The proposal also includes directional adjustment plus access to internal components for inspection and maintenance.

Foot-operated fan concept

Exploded 3D design of a foot-operated fan exhibit showing the fan, pedal mechanism, seat and supporting frame.

The foot-operated design incorporates a seat, pedals and a transmission path leading to the fan. The assembly illustration shows the relationship between the pedal mechanism, supporting frame and fan unit. Transparent inspection windows are included in the proposal so selected mechanical parts can be observed.

Custom science exhibit design: beyond the outer appearance

A custom science exhibit requires far more than visual concept art. The interactive experience must be translated into a practical mechanical assembly that can be fabricated, assembled, inspected and maintained. For this proposal, documentation covers operating mechanisms, component interfaces, protective enclosures and maintenance access points.

The bid also includes an in-house workshop test record for the hand-cranked prototype. This record forms part of the proposal’s development package; it is not a client acceptance test or independent third-party certification. The illustrations shared here also describe the proposed design approach and do not confirm the final approved configuration.

For museum teams evaluating a science museum exhibit fabricator, these engineering details help clarify the proposed design, assembly and maintenance requirements. Read more about Zoomking’s engineering design & prototyping process and our OEM science museum exhibit manufacturing services.

Project updates and enquiries

We will publish further project updates once there are confirmed milestones and approved materials to share. The scope described covers two test units only; this should not be interpreted as an announcement of a public installation at Science Centre Singapore.
