Visitors press a clear start button. This simulates the accumulation of unstable energy in nature. Inside the device, an ultrasonic atomizer generates dense smoke representing warm, humid air. The top fan activates, creating upward suction. A controlled lateral airflow is introduced through a precisely designed piping system.
Visitors witness how initially still smoke is drawn upwards. Propelled by lateral airflow, it begins to rotate around a vertical axis. The smoke rapidly self-organizes from a disordered cloud into a high-speed rotating spiral column. A miniature tornado is born before their eyes.
After the tornado forms, visitors can observe its stable rotating structure up close. Concise text and illustrations guide visitors to connect observed features like rotation and funnel shape with real tornado parameters.
The exhibit reveals key scientific principles. Vertical wind shear initiates rotation. Updrafts maintain rotation and stretch it into a tubular shape. Smoke simulates condensation, making invisible airflow visible. Chaotic systems form ordered structures under specific conditions.
